IFG 28, 29 & 30 Film Selection

Here are the selections for July, August and September 2021 (IFG 28, 29 & 30).

As always, it is a great selection.  The 12 films represent seven different countries and films from 1955-2020.

Below is some more information about the films – all copied from IMDb (the genre, brief description and rating are all direct copies, so if you don’t agree with them it is the fault of IMDb!). If you wish to add more detail, please do so in the comments below.

4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days / 4 luni, 3 saptamâni si 2 zile (Cristian Mungiu, 2007, Romania) Drama.

A woman assists her friend in arranging an illegal abortion in 1980s Romania. 7.9.

1900 / Novecento (Bernardo Bertolucci, 1976, Italy) Drama/Historical.

The epic tale of a class struggle in twentieth century Italy, as seen through the eyes of two childhood friends on opposing sides. 7.7.

An American Werewolf in London (John Landis, 1981, UK) Comedy/Horror.

Two American college students on a walking tour of Britain are attacked by a werewolf that none of the locals will admit exists. 7.5.

The English Patient (Anthony Minghella, 1996, UK) Drama/Romance/War.

At the close of World War II, a young nurse tends to a badly-burned plane crash victim. His past is shown in flashbacks, revealing an involvement in a fateful love affair. 7.4.

The Keeper of Lost Causes / Kvinden i buret (Mikkel Nørgaard, 2013, Denmark) Crime/Drama/Mystery.

Police inspector Carl Mørck is put in charge of a department of cold cases, joined only by his assistant, Assad. They dig into a case about a disappeared woman. 7.2.

The Lady Killers (Alexander Mackendrick, 1955, UK) Comedy/Crime.

Five oddball criminals planning a bank robbery rent rooms on a cul-de-sac from an octogenarian widow under the pretext that they are classical musicians. 7.7.

Love, Simon (Greg Berlanti, 2018, USA) Comedy/Drama/Romance.

Simon Spier keeps a huge secret from his family, his friends and all of his classmates: he’s gay. When that secret is threatened, Simon must face everyone and come to terms with his identity. 7.6.

The Motorcycle Diaries / Diarios de motocicleta (Walter Salles, 2004, Argentina) Adventure/Biographical/Drama.

The dramatization of a motorcycle road trip Che Guevara went on in his youth that showed him his life’s calling. 7.8.

Promising Young Woman (Emerald Fennell, 2020, UK) Crime/Drama/Thriller.

A young woman, traumatized by a tragic event in her past, seeks out vengeance against those who crossed her path. 7.5.

Reservoir Dogs (Quentin Tarantino, 1992, USA) Crime/Drama/Thriller.

When a simple jewelry heist goes horribly wrong, the surviving criminals begin to suspect that one of them is a police informant. 8.3 (IMDb Top 250: #90).

Tenet (Christopher Nolan, 2020, USA) Action/Sci-Fi/Thriller.

Armed with only one word, Tenet, and fighting for the survival of the entire world, a Protagonist journeys through a twilight world of international espionage on a mission that will unfold in something beyond real time. 7.4.

The Wave / Bølgen (Roar Uthaug, 2015, Norway) Action/Drama/Thriller.

Although anticipated, no one is really ready when the mountain pass above the scenic, narrow Norwegian fjord Geiranger collapses and creates an 85-meter high violent tsunami. A geologist is one of those caught in the middle of it. 6.7.
