This was my recommendation, but I have to admit I haven’t seen it. I am a lover of the fanged lord though, and will watch most things Dracula related at-least once (even the execrable Dracula 2001), so I was really intrigued by this version when I saw it mentioned in the Mark Gatiss Documentary. For those not lucky enough to have seen the BBC’s adaptation over New Year (the last episode…very disappointing), that reference might not mean anything. But after the series was shown, there was a great documentary, made by Gatiss, who had just delivered the aforementioned semi-masterpiece. Here, Gatiss used his not inconsiderable influence to meet and explore various creatives associated with most of the screen versions. I thought I was very familiar with most of the best known, but this was one that I missed. I am most intrigued to see this film not least because , after the description by Gatiss, it appears to be the one (prior to Claes Baeng) that most prioritises Dracula as a figure of female desire and gaze. I love the look of Langella’s Byronic version and as this was also a role that he portrayed on stage, it will be interesting to see how the character is played by a ‘serious’ actor with such long-term and in-depth knowledge of his persona. Sadly, the Gatiss documentary is not available any more but if anyone would like to see clips or even possibly view it when repeated, then here is a link: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m000cs1t.

The Gatiss documentary is available on Box of Broadcasts for anyone who has access to it. It might also be available on BritBox.

Is Dracula a metaphor for the coronavirus? Please discuss. There needs to be a tie-in with the coronavirus here.

I agree there is not nearly enough coronavirus stuff in the news anymore. Hopefully there will be lots of corona analogies in Dracula! I am sure it can be spread by drinking blood.
