On Wednesday 16th December we had the live results of the Top 100 films as voted for by the participants of IFG. Now here are some further details.
There were 10 people who took part generating a Top 160 films of all time. Each person sent their top 100 films, in order (sort of) and points were assigned (10 points for their top 1-10 films, 9 points for their top 11-20 films… and so on). The results could be presented in a multitude of ways: by most points, by most votes, by average points… all have their advantages and disadvantages, so a special IFG formula was created for last years results and used again this year. The final position of the films (ONLY those with two or more votes) was calculated by a mean average of the position of the film by points and the position of the film by votes.
The full list of results:

Thank you to all who took part.
Thanks, Rob! ❤ Love the stats you put together (Razvan of course needed to be 1st again! 😜).
One funny thing I noticed was that Donnie and I placed “Inglourious Basterds” at 70. Almost the same thing happened with “Carrie”: Morgan had it at 77, I ranked it 75th.

Always used to run around 10 pm Saturdays on ARD-TV when I was a kid, great time solt back then (I also remember, among others, first watching Westworld and Lawrence of Arabia) then)!

ARD-TV made some good film choices! Have you watched the mini series remake of the Andromeda Strain?

no, I thought the original was just so good – I think it dropped the most places on my list because I really really am not in the mood for movies about highly contagious respiratory diseases – I was going to drop it completely but it’s just so good. So out went Strange days instead.

Love this Rob!! Thanks for all these stats! 😀
So if last year I was the one with the least number of films in our top 44, now I have the most in our top 160, what a change! I did add quite a few new films in my top 50 since last year, plus the fact that we doubled our list made a big difference too. 🙂
I though I had quite a few films in common with Donnie, but it seems I have the most with Romconloveaffair, almost a quarter of our list which is quite a lot! 🙂

I’m really glad Nolan is the director with the most films in the top 160, it’s the same in my list and with the same 7 films too! 😀 I’m also glad to see that there are quite a few movies included from directors such as James Cameron, Steven Spielberg, David Fincher, Quentin Tarantino, Russo Brothers, Ridley Scott, Sam Mendes, the best 2 from Alfonso Cuarón and the best 2 from Damien Chazelle. The only one who doesn’t have multiple films included that I miss is Denis Villeneuve who is at the same level with Nolan for me (although he doesn’t have as many films yet), but maybe next year we will see more films from him in our list. 🙂

It would be good to have some more female directors represented in the Top 160. I am guilty of not contibuting much to that as I think I only had about six female-directed films. Hopefully Denis will be there next year too!

Indeed, but sadly there aren’t that many well known female directors, or with a big enough filmography, like Kathryn Bigelow, Sofia Coppolla or Sussane Bier. But I think this will change in the next 5-10 years as there are now quite many promising female directors like Greta Gerwig, Ava DuVernay, Chloe Zhao, Jennifer Kent, Patty Jenkins, Melina Matsoukas. 🙂

Sofia need not bother making any more if they are like Lost in Translation!

My favourite Hitchcock film, Dial M for Murder made it in the top 160 too. It is the lowest ranked of the 6 films of his that made it though. 😛 Here is my top 5 Hitchcock films (and those in my top 4 are in my top 250 atm):
1. Dial M for Murder
2. North by Northwest (in my top 150, I’m a bit surprised that it’s not as well liked as some of the others that made the list)
3. Rear Window
4. Psycho
5. Strangers on a Train

Good choices 🙂 Have you seen all the Hitchcock films you want to, or are there any key ones you still want to see?

There are still a few that I want to see like Rope, Notorious, Frenzy.

I was pleasantly surprised that 2019 (along with 1999) is the most popular year in our top 160 with as many as 7 films included (I have 7 films from 2019 in my top 100 as well) so I checked to see which ones made it, but I discovered that there are actually 6 films from 2019 😛 so 1999 is the only one with 7 films and most popular. It seems Rob counted La La Land for 2019 in the main top 160 article, but it is a 2016 film. So 2019 has 6 films and 2016 has 3. 🙂
In my top 100 the most popular years are 2014 with no less than 10 films!! and 2015 with 9 films.

That is now the second mistake I am aware of 🙂 Luckily neither of them impact the results too much. Do keeping pointing them out, though, so I can make sure the same mistake is not made again!

I have checked the stats for films by decade and here is where we stand:
2010’s – 34 films
90’s – 33
00’s – 22
80’s – 22
50’s – 17
70’s – 13
60’s – 10
40’s – 6
20’s – 2
30’s – 1
So all the last 10 decades were included which is really impressive!
2010’s is the most popular decade in our top 160 which is quite unexpected considering that last year 2010’s was the least popular decade in our top 44 (except 30’s and 40’s with 1 film each) with only 4 films, but it’s a very pleasant surprise for me! 🙂

It is interesting that the 50s score so highly. It was definitely the right move to do our top 100 films. Hopefully next time we will have more people taking part too.

Overall I am pleased with our top 160. I have seen 143 of the films and out of those there are about three which I personally think are very overated – I don’t think they would make it into my top 500, so stand no chance of ever getting close to my top 100 🙂
Of the 17 that I have not seen, there are, I think, four that I have no interest in seeing whatsoever. I will try and watch the others before next year so I can see what all the fuss is about 🙂
There are obviously a lot of films that people have in their top 10s that others did not even vote for – I may do a page on that and then people can recommend or discuss them if they wish. They might then get some nominations for the monthly films!

I have seen 132 films out of the 160 and the highest ranked ones of those I haven’t seen are Wild Strawberries (36th) and All That Heaven Allows (51st).
I also think it would be interesting to discuss the films in our top 10 that no one else voted for.
